Notes on the bracket:
Seeds and locations are not matched yet. The committee matches seeds with locations after it fills out the bracket on Selection Monday.

This year, the women have moved to the same pod system the men use. Unlike the men, teams are still allowed to play on their home court in the tournament.

Conferences with more than one bid:

8: Big East
7: ACC
6: SEC
4: Big 10, Big 12, Mtn West, Pac 10
2: A-10, MVC, Sun Belt
Last four in: Indiana St, Missouri, USC, Villanova.
Close, but NIT (Not In Tournament): Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Wyoming.
Teams marked with a * either have already received automatic bids or are current leaders of conferences with automatic bids.

The conference leader is defined as the team with the highest RPI among those with the fewest conference losses. Once the conference tournament starts, the conference leader is the highest seed still alive.

The selection committee (year term expires):
Joni Comstock (06) - American - Chair Jane Meyer (10) - Iowa
Sandra Booker (07) - Bethune-Cookman Lisa Parker (09) - Boise St
Barbara Burke (07) - Wyoming Jaclyn Silar (10) - Duke
Tina Cheatham (10) - Southland Conf Judy Southard (09) - LSU
Cindy Hartmann (06) - Dayton Marie Tuite (06) - Washington
